Adams Named Sun Belt Performer Of The Week

DENTON, Texas (2/25/09) - Sophomore hurdler Alysha Adams was named the women's Sun Belt Conference Performer of the Week Wednesday afternoon after capping off the 2009 regular indoor season in grand fashion this past week in Oklahoma.

The walk-on from Houston, Texas accomplished one of her season's goals by setting the NCAA Provisional Mark at the Sooner Open II with a first-place 8.40 performance in the 60-meter hurdles. Adams' time is tops in the Sun Belt Conference after being converted down to the 55-meter hurdles at 7.83.

This is the fifth time this season that a member of the Mean Green has been voted as Performer of the Week, joining Toby Edwards (Week 2 and 5), Jordan Wehr (Week 3) and Lauren Wiggins (Week 2).

The next challenge for Adams and the rest of the Mean Green will be this weekend when they travel to Jonesboro, Arkansas for the Sun Belt Conference Championships. Last season Adams finished third in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 7.96, earning the 2008 Freshman of the Year.
