Feb. 23, 2017

DENTON – The North Texas track & field teams completed the 2017 indoor season and will turn its attention to the outdoor campaign starting on March 17.

There has been a lot of bright spots during the indoor season from young emerging talent in freshman Breanna Eckels and classmate CJ Gilmore. Eckels finish first in the long jump in all three meets and earned a gold medal at the C-USA championships. She was named Freshman of the Meet for her efforts during the indoor C-USA championships.

Gilmore also excelled with a second place finish in his debut at the JD Martin Invitational and finished second at the C-USA championships.

Junior pole vaulter Gabriel McAdams finished top-10 in five of six meets, including a second-place mark at the C-USA championships. Sophomore Blake Skoog just missed out on a podium finish coming in fourth in the women’s pole vault at the C-USA championships.

Injuries derailed the Mean Green’s chances to score more points in the Conference meet. With three weeks to prepare for the outdoor season, North Texas is hoping regain its form after the men’s team was fifth in the outdoor C-USA championships last season.
