Barnes Earns First Ever Sun Belt Performer of the Week

DENTON, Texas (2/23/10) - Junior sprinter Missy Barnes became the fourth North Texas athlete from the track and field squad to win a Sun Belt Conference Performer of the Week during this indoor season on Tuesday afternoon.

Barnes, a transfer from Oklahoma University, returned to her old stomping grounds and set a school record in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.45 and a third place finish at the Sooner Indoor Open this past weekend.

That mark was just one, one-hundredth of a second off of setting an NCAA Provisional time and is currently the 35th best time in the country, along with the best time in the Sun Belt Conference this season.

Barnes joins teammates Ashley Austin, Keyth Talley (twice) and Jordan Wehr as the athletes who have won a Sun Belt Performer of the Week this indoor season.

Barnes and the rest of her teammates will look to become conference champions this weekend when they travel to Murfreesboro, Tennessee for the Indoor Sun Belt Conference Championships (Feb. 27-28). For more coverage on the meet click here.
