Mean Green Field Duo Named Sun Belt Performers of the Week

DENTON, Texas (2/17/10) - A few days after having their best performances of the season, senior long jumper Ashley Austin and junior multi-event athlete Jordan Wehr were selected the Sun Belt Conference Performers of the Week Wednesday afternoon.

Wehr set a Sun Belt and school record by accumulating 5,318 points in the heptathlon at the Iowa St. Classic. The Austin, TX native finished third on Saturday by placing in the top three in four out of the seven heptathlon events, including a first-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles.

Wehr's point total, which shattered Issac Combs' previous record of 5,187, was also just seven points shy of setting an NCAA Provisional mark and is currently the 25th best mark in the country.

Austin had her best performance of the season by winning the long jump competition at the Iowa State Classic. Out of a field of 41 jumpers, Austin's distance of 19-07.50 proved to be the best. Austin's mark was a season-best and is the third best distance in conference this season.

North Texas will return to the track this Saturday when they travel to the Sooner Open II in Norman, OK.
