Track to Compete At The Houston Indoor Tune Up
North Texas Has One More Shot to Compete Before the C-USA Championships
Denton--The Mean Green track and field team competes this Friday at the Houston Indoor Tune Up. This meet will be the last opportunity for North Texas to compete before they take on the Conference USA Indoor Championships.
"We are not exactly where we thought we would be right now," said head coach Carl Sheffield, "but we judge ourselves by how we perform at the championships."
North Texas track and field athletes have had a successful season so far. Last weekend, the Mean Green competed at the New Mexico Invitational, where senior Shahaf Bareni set a season-best high jump mark of 5-10.50, the best mark in Conference USA this season. Senior Deja McKnight also broke a school record with a weight throw of 58-6.
At the Masked Rider Invitational on Jan 30, junior Troy Taylor broke the school's 800M record with a time of 1:52.36.
"There is always room for improvement," Sheffield said. "I think we are rounding into shape. We have had multiple season-bests, as well as personal-bests set in the past few weeks."
The Houston Indoor Tune Up is the last competition before North Texas takes on the Conference USA Championships, which will take place in Birmingham, Ala. on Feb 25.
"It's one last chance to see where we are before the Conference USA championships," Sheffield said. "There are goals we set for our team that we will be trying to attain, and Houston provides us one more opportunity at those goals before the championships."
