DENTON -- The North Texas track and field team continues its indoor season at the Herm Wilson Invitational Feb. 12-13 hosted by Wichita State University.

The Mean Green will be competing against UT Arlington, Oral Roberts, UMKC and host Wichita State. The meet will be international scoring (two per team) 9-7-6-5-4-3-2-1, Relays 9-7-6-5.

“We had a great week of training,” head coach Carl Sheffield said. “This was the first week this semester that we had a full week to train. A lot of people got healthy, rested and technically better without a competition taking up days on the calendar. We have about two weeks to get sharp and focused for Conference USA Championships. This weeks competition will help us solidify those individuals that will compete in Birmingham.”

North Texas will have 31 student-athletes competing for the men’s and women’s team. Junior Collin Heard will be in the 60 meter dash and the 200m. Heard won the 200 meter dash at the Kansas State Invitational on Jan. 23. Senior Connor Bey has had two top-five finishes in the 200m event and will be a part of the 4x400 meter relay team. Junior Dominique Drayden has two top-10 finishes in the long jump and will take part in the triple jump for the first time this season.

The women’s team has impressed so far this indoor season as senior Ngozi Nweke is coming off a school record in the weight throw (17.70m) at the Houston Indoors last weekend. Classmate Mona Landry returns to compete in the 60 meter dash and the long jump. Landry finished in the top 10 in the 60 meter dash and the long jump at the first indoor meet of the season at Texas A&M.

On the distance side, senior Susie Kemper will compete in the mile and the 3000m. Junior Shauna Pali will also compete in the 3000 meter run. Senior Bryce McAndrew will be running the 800m and the mile this weekend. Classmate Silvester Harrison III will be competing in the 3000 meter run. Senior James Coleman will be participating in his second indoor event running the mile and the 800 meters.

“Wichita State is another team scored competition,” added Sheffield. “We get a chance to see how we fare head-to-head as far as point scoring as a team. Each of the schools are pretty talented in one event area or another. We will be challenged strongly as a team on both sides, this week. It will be a pretty good indicator of our teams’ strength in preparation for Conference USA.”
