North Texas track & field continues to break school records on its way to the Sun Belt Conference meet in two weeks.
AMES, Iowa (2/09/13)- North Texas track & field continues to break school records on its way to the Sun Belt Conference meet in two weeks. Senior Jo Adams shattered the women's 3000 meters record, while junior Matt Russ broke the men's 800 meters and sophomore Clint Collins broke his own school record 400-meter dash.

Adams demolished former standout Sara Dietz's 3000 meters school record Saturday on her way to a second-place finish with a time of 9:26.87. Adams now holds two individual indoor records and stands in the top spot of the mile and 3000 meters for the Sun Belt Conference.
Russ ran a 1:53.17 800 meters to place fifth at the Iowa State Classic. Russ broke the school record of 1:53.24 that Don Everett set in 1974 by .07 seconds. Russ moves into third-place in the Sun Belt standings.
Collins brought home the lone first-place finish for North Texas in the men's seeded 400-meter dash. Collins broke his own school record of 47.17 with a time of 46.50. Collins now holds first-place in the Sun Belt.
Mean Green track & field wrapped up the Iowa State Classic with 11 top-five finishes.
Senior Ashley Harrison placed fourth in the women's 400-meter dash, just hundredths of a second away from a school record. Junior Shahaf Bareni (1.74 meters) placed second in the women's high jump. Sophomore Chastity Stewart captured a third-place finish in the women's 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.56.
Johnny Hickman beat out teammate Steven White (fifth-place) for a second-place finish in the men's non-seeded 200-meter dash. Freshman Silvester Harrison grabbed a second-place finish in the men's 5000-meter run with a time of 14:44.26. Aaron Sirles notched a fifth-place finish with a throw of 15.46 meters in the men's shot put. And the men's 4x400 meter relay team placed fifth with an improved time of 3:12.92.
North Texas makes its second appearance in Norman, Okla. next weekend for the Oklahoma Invitational on February 16.
