Hermes Places Second In Pentathlon

AMES, Iowa (02/08/13) - Senior Chelsea Hermes captured second-place in her first penthathlon of the 2013 indoor season at the Iowa State Classic. Hermes finished first among collegiate competitors.

Hermes put up an impressive 3638 points just 25 off her personal-record and 40 off the school record. She now leads the Sun Belt Conference by 52 points in the pentathlon.

Hermes started the pentathlon with a 9.25 60-meter hurdles to grab a sixth-place finish and pick up 858 points.

Hermes bounced back with a second-place finish in the high jump with a leap of 1.65 meters to add 795 points to her score. She then threw 11.02 meters to take third place and bring her total points to 2,249.

Hermes went on to leap 5.19 meters (17-00.50 feet) grabbing a fourth-place finish in the long jump and adding 612 points and moving her into second-place overall.

In the final event of the pentathlon, Hermes ran a 2:23.45 800 meters to grab a second-place finish and 777 points.

Hermes will compete in the indoor pentathlon next at the Sun Belt Conference Indoor Championships on February 23-24.
