DENTON (2/6/07) The Sun Belt Conference named sophomore Brandi Stanfield field performer of the week on Tuesday after her performance Saturday at the J.D. Martin Invitational.
Stanfield passed the NCAA provisional qualifying mark for the triple jump when she flew 41-08.5 in Norman. Although it was only good enough for third place, it was still enough to potentially send her to the NCAA championships for the second time in as many seasons.
On top of her triple jump accomplishment, the 2006 All-American pulled out her second event victory of the season by claming first in the long jump. Her jump of 19-06.5 was good enough to edge Oklahoma’s Portia Nash for her first victory in a field event of 2006.
The NCAA indoor championships will be held March 9-10 in Fayetteville, Ark.
Stanfield and the Mean Green will be back in action this weekend in Ames, Iowa, for the Iowa State Classic.
