Track & Field Geared Up For JD Martin Invitational

DENTON – The North Texas track and field teams have one last chance to impress before the Conference championship by competing at the JD Martin Invitational on Saturday, Feb. 3, at the Mosier Indoor facility.

The teams competing will be Texas Southern and Oklahoma in the 16-event meet. The first event will be at 10 a.m. starting with the women’s weight throw.

The men’s team will be sending 20 student-athletes to Norman. In the sprinters group, junior James Cole will be in the 60-meter dash with teammates Darien Porter, Jaron Thomas, Jacob Kevetter and Abdon Campbell. Kevetter and Thomas will be taking part in the 60-mter hurdles. Freshman Dayton Johnson will run the 200-meter dash with Campbell and Porter.

The distance runners will be sending Shane Bracken (mile, 3000-meter run), Tim Jones (800m, mile), Zach Kirkland (800m, 1000m), Mike Lowe (mile, 1000m), Florida Lussy (1000m, mile), Rick Nally (mile, 1000m) and Matthew Morgan (3000m).

In the field events, Kevone Kennedy will be throwing the weight throw with teammate Karl Sralla. Daniel Becherer, Jacob Franks and Brady Trankle are entered in the pole vault. Sophomore Howard Grant is in the long jump.

On the women’s side, North Texas will have 48 competitors hoping to post podium marks. Freshman Valencia Bullock will be competing in long jump and triple jump. In the 60-meter dash, Taylor Blackshire, Lyric Choice, Bria Williams and Jaida Johnson will be taking part.

In the distance events, Cassidy Adams (mile, 3000m), Rea Iseli (mile), Christina Moralez (mile), Jennifer White (mile, 3000m) and Olivia Zint (800m, 1000m) will be competing.

In the field events, Kristyn Archuleta (shot put, weight throw), Ashlyn Smart (weight throw), Jaleisa Shaffer (shot put, weight throw) and Haley Walker (shot put, weight throw) are set to throw. In pole vault, Bailey Ashmore, Kristen Adair and Hannah Winn will look for high marks.

The Mean Green will be competing at the Conference USA indoor championships in Birmingham, Alabama in two weeks on Feb. 17-18.
