DENTON, Texas (1/21/10) - One week after getting their feet wet at the Texas A&M Invitational, the North Texas track and field team returns to the track this weekend for the first of back-to-back meets inside "The Bubble" on the campus of Texas Tech.
Last week in College Station nearly every North Texas athlete competed in only one event as they try and ease their way into the indoor season. For sophomore sprinter Keyth Talley, he made the most of it. The Tuscaloosa, Alabama native set a new school record in the 60-meter dash with a second place finish of 6.69 and earned North Texas' first NCAA provisional mark of the season.
Earlier this week Talley was awarded the men's track Sun Belt Conference Indoor Performer of the Week for the first time in his career. That time (6.69) also stands as the third fastest mark in the nation.
The Mean Green also saw early positive results from transfer sprinters Missy Barnes and Brittany Blaylock. Both advanced to the finals of the 60-meter dash and each ran conference-leading 7.09 when converted into the 55-meter dash.
Following this week's meet North Texas will have the following weekend off before returning to Lubbock again on Feb. 6 for the Texas Tech Open.
Action from this weekend's Texas Tech Invitational will begin on Friday at 6 p.m. beginning with the women's weight throw. Live results will be available at http://www.spato.us/ttu/2010/.
