Mean Green Head North to J.D. Martin Invite

DENTON, Texas - Mean Green track & field heads north for the first time in the 2012 indoor season for the J.D. Martin Invitational at the Mosier Indoor Track Facility on the campus of the University of Oklahoma.

North Texas is coming off an impressive showing at the Texas A&M 10-Team Invitational last week which netted two Sun Belt Conference Track Athletes of the Week in head coach Carl Sheffield's first meet.

Week Two Notes

Senior Sara Dietz was named the SBC Women's Track Athlete of the Week for her performance in the 800-meter run when she shattered her own school record by nearly three seconds in 2:11.36.  She currently leads the conference and sits No. 8 on the NCAA descending order list in the 800.

Matt Russ also received the SBC Track Athlete of the Week nod when he finished in second place in the mile run in 4:13.96. The junior currently leads the Sun Belt Conference in the event by nearly six seconds.

Sophomore Clinton Collins, who was the lone freshman to participate in the NCAA West Preliminary Rounds last season, also leads the conference after a sixth-place finish in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.76 seconds.

Collins was also member of the men's 4x400-meter relay team that leads Western Kentucky by the slimmest of margins, finishing .01 seconds faster in 3:14.99.

The J.D. Martin Invitational begins at 10 a.m. with the long jump, while running events will kick-off at 12:30 p.m. Live results will be available through Delta Timing at
