DENTON, Texas (1/20/09) Toby Edwards and Lauren Wiggins were both honored on Tuesday after the Sun Belt Conference tabbed the two members of the Mean Green as Performers of the Week for their efforts this past weekend at the Texas Tech Invitational.
Wiggins, a senior hurdler from Carrolton, Texas, finished first in the 55-meter hurdles in a time of 7.93, which also currently stands as the top time in the Sun Belt Conference. She also had the best time in the prelims (8.00).
Last season Wiggins finished 14th at the NCAA Indoor Track Championships in the 60-meter hurdles. She also set the school record in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 7.72. This is the second time in Wiggins’ career she has been selected as the SBC Performer of the Week.
Edwards, a senior high jumper from Athens, Texas, continues to shine after reaching new heights last season that resulted in a trip to the NCAA Outdoor Championship. This past weekend Edwards won yet another high jump competition with a jump of 6-07.00 to beat out the field of 12 competitors, including two members from the Big 12.
It is also the second time in his four-year career at North Texas that Edwards has earned SBC Field Performer of the Week.
The Mean Green will head to Fayeteville, Arkansas this weekend to take part in the Razorback Invitational beginning on Friday, Jan. 23.
