LUBBOCK, Texas (1/20/07) In day two of the Texas Tech Invitational, the Mean Green men took the spotlight and a pair of first place finishes.
Newcomer Terry Lewis - a McNeese State transfer - took first in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.45 seconds. Mark Lee matched his place in the high jump with a leap of 6’11’’.
Ryan Varner, a Texas Tech transfer, gave the Red Raider nation a firsthand look at what he had to offer by pulling out a second place finish in the 200-meter dash in a time of 21.93 seconds.
The Mean Green women put five runners in the top eight of the 55-meter dash with Rachel Runnels claiming second place at 7.20 seconds. Spots three-through-five were taken by Keisha Hornsby, Lisa Nolting and Brandi Stanfield. Ronniqua Wilson also finished in eighth.
Stanfield also got back in the groove in the triple jump with a second-place finish at 39’4’’.
Other solid finishes by the Mean Green women include Heather Wood in the shot put and Mackenna Fernanada in the 200 meters. Wood kicked off the season with a third-place finish and a toss of 44’10.25”. Fernanda’s run of 24.98 was good enough for fourth place in her debut meet for the Mean Green.
The Mean Green will be back in action February 3rd at the JD Martin Invitational in Norman, Okla.
