Edwards Leads Charge On Day One In Lubbock

Day 1 Results 

LUBBOCK, Texas (1/16/09) Toby Edwards picked up right where he ended the 2008 season, finishing first in the high jump on day one of the Texas Tech Invitational Friday evening in Lubbock.

Edwards, a senior from Athens, Texas, took first with a jump of 6-07.00 to beat out the field of 12 leapers.

Last season Edwards became the first high jumper in school history to advance to the NCAA Outdoor Championship and also tied his own school-record with a jump of 7-00.50.

North Texas also got good results in the field events from Brandi Stanfield and Jordan Wehr. Stanfield advanced to the finals in the long jump and finished sixth with a leap of 18-00.50.

Wehr, a sophomore from Austin, had a breakthrough by advancing to the finals in the long jump and finishing eighth with a distance of 22-00.75.

Shayla Hart, a returning all-conference senior, placed fifth in the 600-yard run with a time of 1:26.61.

The Mean Green track team will be in action Saturday beginning at 10 a.m. with the shot put and triple jump events.
