DENTON, Texas (1/14/08) - Heath Smith and Lisa Nolting were honored as the 2007 Track and Field Most Valuable Performers at the 2007-08 Track and Field Awards Banquet held last Saturday.
In 2007, Smith earned Academic All-American honors for the Mean Grean and was an NCAA National Qualifier. He also took an award for Outstanding Field Event Performer as well.
Nolting, a graduating senior was a finalist in two events indoors, and two out, she was a member of 4 X 400 relay second all-time and also qualified for NCAA Regionals.
Also honored were members of the 2007 Cross Country team that saw a second place finish at the 2007 Sun Belt Conference Championship in Bowling Green, Kentucky.
Patrick Strong, a true freshman from Nelson, New Zeland, was named both Newcomer of the Year and Men’s Most Valuable Performer.
Strong had a top 10 finish in three out of his four meets and was the Mean Green’s top finisher in every meet this season.
Jessica Torres was named the Most Valuable Performer for the women. Torres was UNT’s top finisher in all but one meet and raced a team best 19:26:70 in the 5k run during the Sun Belt Championship.
