Williams Takes Second, Makes US Junior Team
EUGENE, Ore. - North Texas freshman Terrance Williams finished second in the long jump at the USA Junior Championships on Friday afternoon at Hayward Field.
Jumping 7.53 meters, Williams came just .01 meters short of first place, but qualified to be a member of Team USA for the Pan American Junior Athletics Championships.
With Williams qualifying for the US Junior team, the Mean Green have now been represented on three straight US Junior Teams, dating back to 2009 when Keyth Talley qualified in both the 200 meter dash and was a member of the 4x100 relay.
Last season featured hurdler Steven White competing in the 400-meter hurdles for the United States Junior Team and Darnell Greig running a leg of the 4x400-meter relay for the Trinidad & Tobago Senior National Team.
Saturday featured Alysha Adams falling two spots short of advancing to the semi-finals of the USA Championships in the 100-meter hurdles. Adams finished 20th overall with a time of 13.25 seconds.
The Pan American Junior Athletics Championships will take place July 22-24, in Miramar, Fla.
