DENTON, Texas (6/4/13) – North Texas track & field athletes Jo Adams, Shahaf Bareni and Steven White are set to compete in the 2013 NCAA Championships hosted by the University of Oregon at the Historic Hayward Field this week.
Adams and Bareni are the first Mean Green women to return to the championships since Alysha Adams and the women’s 4x100 meter relay team in 2010.
Adams advanced to the championships after running a school record 4:15.33 1,500-meter run to finish ninth overall. Adams will compete in the first-of-two heats in the semifinals of the 1,500 meters on Thursday afternoon at 4:30. Adams needs to finish in the top five of her heat to participate in the finals on Saturday at 2:19 p.m.
Bareni placed sixth in the women’s high jump at the prelims with a leap of 5-08.75 feet to qualify for the championships. Bareni will compete 22nd in the final of the women’s high jump at 12:45 p.m. on Saturday.
White will make his second consecutive appearance at the NCAA Championships after placing fifth overall in the men’s 400-meter hurdles with a time of 50.22. White, who is the first Mean Green to compete this week, will compete in the first-of-three heats in the semifinals on Wednesday night at 6:15. White needs to finish in the top two to advance to Friday’s finals at 4:40 p.m.
This is the first time in 30 years that North Texas has sent three athletes to compete in individual events at the NCAA Championships. The NCAA Championships will be hosted by the University of Oregon at the Historic Hayward Field June 5-8. Fans can follow the championships via Flash Results.
