Archuleta, Eckels Finish Outdoor Season At NCAA West Prelims
Archuleta Places 31st, Eckels Comes In 32nd
SACRAMENTO, CA - Sophomores Kristyn Archuleta and Breanna Eckels both competed at the 2018 NCAA West preliminary round ending their outdoor season Thursday at Hornet Stadium.
Archuleta finished her outdoor season by coming in 31st in javelin at the NCAA West preliminary round. Archuleta had three attempts throwing 42.98 meters, 41.68 meters and fouled on her final throw. In 2017, she finished 24th at the NCAA West prelims with a throw of 45.49 meters.
Eckels came in 32nd place in long jump after a jump of 5.77 meters in the third flight. She jumped 5.51 meters on her first attempt and fouled on her second. Eckels was able to post a 5.77 on her final attempt but it fell short of a top-12 finish to advance. In 2017, she finished 16th in long jump with a then personal-best mark of 6.22 meters.
On Friday, sophomore Bailey Ashmore will compete in pole vault at 6:30 p.m. (CT) and junior James Cole will run in the 200-meter dash quarterfinal at 9:30 p.m. (CT).
