Track Team Opens C-USA Championship With Sixth-Place Finish In 10,000-Meter Race
Mike Lowe Finishes Sixth, Kevone Kennedy Sets A Career Best
EL PASO -- The North Texas men's and women's track and field teams opened competition in the Conference USA championship with a sixth-place finish in the 10,000 meter men's race and an eighth-place mark in the men's hammer throw on Friday.
Kevone Kennedy picked up the first points of the conference championship with an eighth-place finish in the hammer throw. The junior set a personal best with a throw of 54.12 meters (177-07) on his first attempt. The throw was also the fifth farthest in school history.
The long-distance runners also started competition on the Mean Green's first day of action. Jennifer White finished 14th in the 10,000-meter race with a time of 45. 17:63. It was the first time the freshman has run that distance.
Mike Lowe closed out the night for the Mean Green with a sixth-place finish in the 10,000-meter run with a time of 31.50:80, picking up three points.
The Mean Green will continue action in the conference championship on Saturday, May 13 with competition beginning at 2 p.m. with more field events. The running events will start in the evening at 6 p.m.
