HOUSTON -North Texas track and field’s Alejandro Valencia won the men’s 5000-meter run, this was one of two top-performances for the Mean Green the 11th Annual J. Fred Duckett Twilight Meet hosted by Rice, at the Holloway Track/Ley Field.
Valencia was the only male under 15 minutes in the 5000m run; his time of 14:53.20 was a season best.
Junior Chastity Stewart took the women’s 100m hurdles, clocking a time of 13.86 which was her second fastest run this season.
The women’s 4X100 meter relays grabbed a top-three finish with the team of Chianne Lowe, Rhenique Williams, Kayla Savoie and Mona Landry in 46.24
Collin Heard led the way for the Mean Green in the men’s 200m dash. His time of 21.08 was a top-three finish.
In the field events, Jazmine Martin had a season-best triple jump of 11.24m, placing eighth in today’s competition.
The Mean Green sophomore Silvester Harrison III had a season-best performance with his time of 9:33.23 in the 3000m steeplechase. On the women’s side Magdalena Escobar had a personal-best of 11:22.99 finishing fifth, teammate Shauna Pali time of 11:55.08 was eighth.
In the 400m hurdles, senior Marcus Wooten also had a season-best time of 54.01, crossing the finish line sixth.
Clint Clarke competed in the triple jump, for the first time this season; the senior placed fifth in 13.94m.
The Mean Green will return to Holloway Track/Ley Field on May 15 when the Owls host the Conference USA Outdoor Championship.
