Fifteen Top-Three Finishes Highlight NT Open For T&F

DENTON, Texas - Fifteen top-three finishes highlighted the Mean Green's performance Friday afternoon at the first of two weekend events from Fouts Field, the North Texas Open.

The 200-meter dash accounted for over a quarter of the podium finishes, with Justin Flowers, Clinton Collins and Steven White finishing first, second and third for the men and Brittani Simmons taking second overall on the women's side.

Flowers' 200 time of 21.12 tops the current Sun Belt Conference best time, set by teammate Steven White, and ranks him at No. 10 nationally.

Senior hurdler Alysha Adams, who was competing in the 100-meter hurdles for the first time this outdoor season, captured first place with a time of 13.30 seconds. That mark is also good enough to put her atop the conference and at No. 3 nationally through competition Friday.

The Mean Green women's 4 x 100-meter relay team was able to nab first place during the first running event of the day, crossing the line in 45.99 seconds, while the men grabbed second, just behind UTA with a time of 40.51.

Jermaine Jamison continued his stellar outdoor campaign with another first place finish in the high jump, winning in a jump-off on Friday with a final clearing height of 2.01 meters.

North Texas will be back in action tomorrow at the North Texas Spring Classic at Fouts Field. Field events start at 12 p.m. with the pole vault, long jump and shot put.  Running events will begin at 3 p.m. Admission for the running events is $5 for adults and $3 for children.
