BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -North Texas men’s distance medley relay had the fastest time in program history, finishing second to complete day one at the Conference USA Indoor Championships.

“Going into conference USA we knew it was going to be a challenge,” said head coach Carl Sheffield. “After competing today we can see where we need to make adjustments and changes in order to compete at a higher level.”

The men’s distance medley relay of Connor Bey, Alex Hita, Bryce McAndrew and Austin Yaeger crossed the finish line second with a time of 10:00.68; a recorded breaking performance.

“The distance medley relay was the performance of the night,” Sheffield said. “Bryce was in the right position at the right time for us and it was his fastest performance we’ve see this year.”

In the men’s 400M, the Mean Green’s Anthony Hamilton and Clinton Collins qualified for Saturday’s final. Collins had the second fastest time of the evening with a 47.58 and Hamilton ran a season-best, rounding out the top-eight in 48.74.

In the field events, Clinton Clarke advanced to the final of the men’s long jump with a personal best of 6.96m to finish ninth.

The men’s 5000m Alejandro Valencia had a 14 second personal-best of 14:43.92 to finish in sixth, right behind him was James Coleman  in 14:43.95.

On the women’s side, sophomore Charlotte Wilson ran a personal-best 5000m in 17:06.11, placing her sixth in the conference, while Mean Green newcomer Shauna Pali also had a personal-best of 17:29.05.

Day two of the C-USA Championship will consist of the mile run, where Mean Green's Jo Adams will compete. The field events will consist of the triple jump, along with the women’s pole vault and high jump.
