Lewis Breaks Weight Throw Record
Junior Charleston Lewis broke his weight throw school record for the second time this year at the Sooner Invitational on Saturday.
NORMAN, Okla. (2/16/13) - Junior Charleston Lewis broke his weight throw school record for the second time this year at the Sooner Invitational on Saturday.
Lewis threw 17.68 meters to best his old record by more than .40 meters on his to capturing a fourth-place finish in the event.
Men's distance runners paced the men's side winning three of the top five spots in the men's 800-meter run. Sophomore Austin Yaeger (1:56.41) took home first, followed by freshmen Bryce McAndrew (1:57.01) at third and Alex Hita (1:59.18) at fifth. Newcomer James Coleman finished second in the men's mile run with a time of 4:20.95.
Senior Aaron Sirles took home his fifth top-five finish of the season, placing fifth in the shot put with a throw of 16.31 meters.
Junior Shahaf Bareni and newcomer Christina Taylor lead the way for the women's side, taking first in their respective events. Bareni hopped 1.75 meters in the high jump while Taylor ran a 2:15.64 800-meter run.
The women's side had six top-five finishes including Micheala Williams's second-place finish in the women's triple jump with a leap of 11.85 meters. Kendria Burton ran a 8.82 60-meter hurdles to capture fourth. Chelsea Hermes took home fourth in the high jump with a jump of 1.65 meters. Charlotte Wilson ran a 5:11.01 mile to take home fourth.
The Mean Green track & field team travel to Jonesboro, Ark. for the Sun Belt Conference Indoor Championships Feb. 23-24.
