One Week Before Conference, North Texas Distance Dominates

North Texas distance runners dominated at their last meet before Conference Indoor Championships, with two first-place finishes and many other Mean Green victories.

The Mean Green’s distance runners had many victories at the Houston Indoor Tune-Up. Susie Kemper had a winning 800M time of 2:17.77, a personal best, and Magdalena Escobar placed second in the mile run with a time of 4:58.40.

Troy Taylor and Bryce McAndrew placed first and second, respectively, in the mile run.

Silvester Harrison, Alejandro Valencia, and Grady Frazier earned three of the top five 3000M times, with Harrison placing second with a time of 8:29.45. 

North Texas’s Men Distance Medley team, Collin Head, Zach Kirkland, Silvester Harrison, and Mike Lowe place second with a time of 10:34.30.

Shauna Pali came in second in the 3000M run with a time of 9:57.00. In addition, North Texas’s Susie Kemper, Leesa Morales and Yvette Hernandez held three of the top ten 3000M places.



In addition, Chastity Stewart placed third in the 60M hurdles with a time of 8.75 seconds. Mona Landry’s 5.73m long jump earned her second place, and placed fourth with a 7.69 second 60M dash time. 

Field athletes Deja McKnight and Tori Clark placed second and third, respectively, in women’s shot put. 

North Texas takes on the C-USA Conference Championships on Feb 25-26.
