Dietz Narrowly Misses School Record in Houston

HOUSTON, Texas - Senior Sara Dietz fell less than a second short of another school record Saturday as Mean Green track & field wrapped up the Houston Indoor Invitational.

Dietz, who already captured the 800 school record earlier in the year, went after the 3,000 meter run school record today, finishing in 9:54.33, just .53 seconds short of the program's all-time mark in ninth place.

Steven White and sophomore Clinton Collins led the way on the men's track side with a pair of second place finishes.

White ran a season best 49.25 in the 400-meter dash while Collins took the second place finish in the 200-meter dash in 22.21 seconds.

Sophomore Charleston Lewis set a school record in the weight throw as well.  His toss of 16.63m or 54-06.75 feet eclipsed the old mark of 53-06.25 held by Heath Smith.

Distance runner Matt Russ nabbed yet another top-five finish in the 3,000 meter run, when he crossed the line in 8:35.39.

Senior James Fowler had another strong meet when he registered a sixth-place finish in the 200 and a tenth-place finish in the 100-meter.

Running in her second meet of the year, DeOna Stafford crossed the line in ninth with a season fast time of 8.71 meters.  Teammate Ashley Starks was just behind Stafford in tenth.

Mean Green track & field will be back in action on Saturday, February 4, when it heads west to the Texas Tech Indoor Invitational.
