Lynch's Second Place Finish Highlights Texas Tech Classic

LUBBOCK, TX – The North Texas track and field teams had multiple strong finishes, including a second-place finish from Susannah Lynch in the 3000-meter run at the Texas Tech Classic Saturday.

“Another step closer in our preparation for Conference USA,” head coach Carl Sheffield said. “It was tough competition and a big learning experience for our team. We will start to taper our training towards preparing for the championship meet. Rest, regeneration and fine tuning should bring us closer to our goals.”

Lynch took home silver after running a career-best time of 9:40.69, just behind Oklahoma’s Belle Wallace at 9:35.72. Senior Christina Moralez finished sixth with a time of 10:00.01.

In the men’s 3000m run, sophomore Florian Lussy finished third with a time of 8:36.76. Senior Mike Lowe was eighth at 8:44.17 and senior Rick Nally came in 10th at 8:49.16.

In the 800-meter run, North Texas had three runners finished inside the top-10 with junior Baylee Nelson coming in sixth at 2:18.06 and senior Victoria Junious in seventh at 2:19.59. Sophomore Darrian Johnson came in eight place with a time of 2:19.95.

Senior Kevone Kennedy finished sixth in the weight throw at 17.46 meters (57-3.50 feet). Junior James Cole was 10th in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.86.

Freshman Taylor Blackshire qualified for the 60-meter dash finals with a time of 7.69. In the finals, Blackshire finished sixth after tying her season-best time of 7.66.

In the shot put “B” section, freshman Haley Walker finished second with a season-best throw of 12.95 meters (42-6.0 feet). Freshman Jaleisa Shaffer placed third with a season-best throw of 12.87 meters (42-2.75 feet)

Senior Dominique Drayden comes in sixth in long jump at 6.99 meters (22-11.25 feet). Drayden finished seventh in triple jump at 14.39 meters (47-2.50 feet).
