Martin Wins Triple Jump At Kansas State Invitational

MANHATTAN, KS – The North Texas track & field team continued to start the indoor season strong at Kansas State’s DeLoss Dodds invitational Saturday inside Ahearn field house.

“We really stepped up our head-to-head competition this weekend,” head coach Carl Sheffield said. “We left a few behind to get healthy but it shows us where we have events we need to improve in.”

Senior Jazmine Martin finished first in the triple jump at 11.88 meters. Martin achieved the winning jump on her third attempt.

Sophomore James Cole finished fourth in the 200-meter dash (22.43) and senior Jamison Justice came in fifth.

In the men’s pole vault, junior Gabriel McAdams finished second with a vault of 4.75 meters. Sophomore Jordan Faughtenberry came in a tie for third at 4.60 meters.

Junior Zach Kirkland came in third in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:56.75. Freshman Hayden Murphy was fifth at 2:01.06. Freshman Tori Valka set a new personal best time of 2:21.70 in the 800-meter run and placed third.

Sophomore Kellee McCann came in second in the mile with a time of 5:06.90. Classmate Catalina Uriarte finished 10th with a time of 5:34.59.

Freshman Linnea Larsson-Huusko finished fourth in the weight throw with a season-high throw of 15.61 meters.

The men’s team scored 61 points and defeated Oklahoma State 61.0 to 48.0. The women’s team scored 44 points.

-Freshman Darrian Johnson finished fourth in the 600 yard run with a time of 1:29.31
-Freshman Artesha Richardson finished fifth in the 200-meter dash with a season-best time of 25.61

North Texas will head to the JD Martin Invitational hosted by Oklahoma on Jan. 28.
