Mean Green Track Starts Season on the Right Foot
Women Place Second, Men Place Third in First Meet of Season
DENTON--At the Texas A&M Texas Team Invitational both freshmen and upperclassmen runners started the season off with podium finishes in many events.
The North Texas women's track team placed second overall, with a total of 79 points. Senior Shahaf Bareni placed first in high jump(1.77m), and senior Chastity Stewart placed second in the 60 meter hurdles, with a time of 8.76. Junior Mona Landry placed first in long jump with a jump of 5.9m (19-4¼ ) and freshman Siara Obsuyi came in second with a 5.58m (18-3¾ ) jump. Senior Deja McKnight earned third in shot put with a 13.69m (44-11) throw. Sophomore Chianne Lowe's 60 meter dash time of 7.78 seconds earned her sixth place and ranked her in the top eight for all of C-USA.
The men placed third overall, with a total of 76 points. Junior Kedron Sowells placed first in the 200 meter dash (21.93), and fifth in the 60 meter dash (7.02). Troy Taylor (8:20.16) and Bryce McAndrew (8:23.77) placed first and second, respectively, in the 3000 meter run. Freshman Mike Lowe (15:05.48) and junior Silvester Harrison (15:06.86) placed second and third in the 5000M run, and junior Alex Hita placed fifth in the 800 meter run (1:55.87).
