Derek Grice begins his second year at North Texas Athletics as the senior associate athletic director for facilities and logistics.
AT North Texas, Grice has oversight of current and planned facilities, facilities construction, game/event operations, emergency management and coordination of conference championships hosted by North Texas. He also has sport oversight of the swimming and diving program.
Previous to North Texas, Grice spent nine years at Texas State in San Marcos, Texas. Most recently, he served as the assistant director of athletics for facilities and game operations. He held that position for six years. He was the sport supervisor of baseball and softball and managed game day operations for all athletic events. Grice arrived in San Marcos in 2003 and spent three years as the director of athletic facilities and game operations.
Grice was involved in capital campaigns at Texas State. He wasa primary member of the committee that developed "The Drive," a comprehensive campaign for the elevation of Texas State to the Football Bowl Subdivision culminating with an invitation to join the Western Athletic Conference. He directed the athletics facility master planning process and served on Texas State's Master Planning Committee. Grice also served as the project manager for over $70 million in capital projects, including a $34 million campaign for the Bobcat Stadium North End Zone Expansion.
Grice received both his bachelor's and master's degrees in sports administration from Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg, Miss. He was a graduate assistant in event management.
Grice is a native of Hattiesburg, Miss. He and his wife, Shay, have a daughter, Aubrey, who was born in September of 2011.
