Amy Gaston joined North Texas in 2018.
Gaston came to Denton from Baylor University, where she worked in a variety of capacities assisting their marketing and development efforts as well as serving as the chair of the organizing committee for the 2018 Applied Sport Management Association Conference.
In her role at UNT, Gaston promotes Mean Green teams and student-athletes on campus and in the community.
Gaston, a graduate of the Baylor School of Education's MSEd Sport Management Program, turned her passion for high school volleyball into a career in marketing and promotions.
Gaston played college athletics for Wayland Baptist University before transferring to Tarleton State, and her collegiate career taught her the importance of a good athletic program.
"College athletics are what made me who I am today," Gaston said. "I love the competition. I love the teamwork. I love the camaraderie. I love the fight that has to come from those things. I just want to provide that same opportunity for the next generation."
Gaston was an English teacher in South Korea for a year before she coached high school sports in the U.S. At Baylor, Gaston earned a graduate assistantship with Dr. Jeffery Petersen in the Sport Management Graduate Program. She was selected to participate in several exclusive professional industry conferences, and received a general scholarship to attend the national 2017 convention of the Women Leaders in College Sports, which supports and connects women working in collegiate sports.
In October 2017, Gaston attended the 2017 Collegiate Athletics Leadership Symposium after being selected as one of 12 interns to work the invitation-only networking event that hosted top national athletic directors. She served as organization chair for the Baylor Sport Management Program's first experience of hosting an academic conference, the 2018 Applied Sport Management Association conference. Gaston helped write Baylor's bid for the event and pitched Baylor's location at the 2017 AMSA conference.
Gaston grew up in Dalhart, Texas. Her post-graduate work experience includes time as an admissions recruiter at Wayland Baptist, a volleyball and track and field coach at Randall High School in Amarillo, and head volleyball coach at Northwest High School in Justin, Texas.
