DENTON, Texas (10/17/11) - North Texas student-athletes volunteered at the 2011 Denton Heart Walk at Apogee Stadium on Saturday morning. Members of the swimming, tennis, women's basketball and volleyball teams woke up early this past weekend to help make the charity event a success.
The volleyball and tennis teams led the walkers and runners on the 2.5 mile course around Apogee Stadium. The women's basketball team manned the water stations, distributing refreshments to the walkers and runners throughout the course.
The swimmers were in charge of the Pet Stop where people could leave their dogs while they walked. They also cheered on the participants as they finished.
More than 200 walkers participated in the 2011 Denton Heart Walk, which is one of 300-plus cities across America in taking a stand against heart disease and helping save lives.
Each year millions of people participate in Heart Walks around the country. Each walker is asked to raise money from friends and family, coworkers, business acquaintances, association members, etc. The money that is raised each year will be used to fund the valuable research, education and advocacy efforts of the American Heart Association.
