Up Periscope: Mean Green To Produce Scheduled Live Broadcasts
NT Increasing Its Use Of Twitter's Live-Video App Periscope
DENTON - The North Texas athletic department is increasing fan access to the behind-the-scenes world of the Mean Green with scheduled live-video broadcasts via Periscope.
Among the Mean Green's first scheduled broadcasts will be the unveiling of the Mean Green football team's new uniforms for the 2015 season.
A schedule of North Texas broadcasts and a list of Twitter accounts - in essence Periscope channels - can be found on MeanGreenSports.com's new Periscope page, along with links to download the app.
Periscope is a live-video-streaming app that was founded in 2014 and purchased by and launched on Twitter early this year, and the Mean Green began using it during the 2015 spring semester.
Videos can be viewed for up to 24 hours, then they disappear automatically from the hosting Twitter account. The live feeds are shot from smartphones or tablets, are broadcast live, and cannot be editted or their broadcast delayed. Viewers can watch live videos from around the planet, can comment on them and applaud by tapping the screen of their device, which causes a heart to be shown briefly on the screen which other viewers can see.
North Texas was one of the first collegiate-athletic departments to broadcast on Periscope, and among the first to schedule programming. The Mean Green's first scheduled broadcast will be Friday, July 17, when we'll show live footage of the North Texas football team going through a special bootcamp-style training session, conducted by current and former armed-forces members. The session will run from 10 a.m. to noon, and we'll be on Periscope at various times during the session on the Mean Green football team's Twitter account.
On July 21-22, we'll be on the air again from the Conference USA football media days in Dallas on the football team's Twitter account.
On July 30, we'll reveal the Mean Green football team's new uniforms for the 2015 season on Periscope. The broadcast will take place just prior to the start of the Helmets and Heels women's football clinic, which begins at 5 p.m. That broadcast will also be on the football team's Twitter account.
Although the first few scheduled Periscope videos will be on North Texas football, there will be plenty of live videos from all other Mean Green sports throughout the 2015-16 season. Keep watch on our Periscope page and on Mean Green Twitter accounts for schedules.
