July 4th Fireworks Show To Be Held At Apogee Stadium Friday
Denton Noon Kiwanis Club Sponsoring Annual Event
June 30, 2014
DENTON - The Denton Noon Kiwanis Club will hold its annual July 4th fireworks show at Apogee Stadium this Friday evening. Here are details on the event:
Where is it being held this year? Apogee Stadium.
When does it start? Gates open at 5:30 p.m. and live music begins at 6:30. Fireworks normally start at 9:30-9:45.
How much does it cost? The event is FREE, but it costs $5 to park at Fouts Field and in lots surrounding Apogee Stadium. A portion of the lot at Apogee will be cordoned off due to the deployment area for the fireworks.
Where can I sit? The west side and wing areas of the stadium are general admission.
Can I go into the club or suites? Only if you have been given a ticket as a sponsor, member of the Kiwanis Club or you are currently a University of North Texas Athletics’ Mean Green Club member with club/suite access. Without proper credentials and parking, you will not be permitted in that area.
Can I tailgate prior to the game? Yes, the 20-plus acres surrounding Apogee Stadium are available for tailgating just like fans do in the fall before Mean Green football games. We encourage you to clean up your space, recycle if possible, and please refrain from using glass containers that could break and create problems in the grassy areas. Police will be patrolling the property and we encourage everyone to act responsibly.
Can I bring coolers, food, and drinks inside Apogee? No. We ask you refrain from bringing in outside food and drink as full concession service will be available inside Apogee Stadium, including Metzler’s BBQ, Beth Marie's Ice Cream, and our Mean Green concession booths. Please leave your coolers at your parking space when you are done tailgating.
Can I bring my family on the actual field? No. While we allowed this at old Fouts Field, the football field at Apogee is simply too big an investment to the athletic department to risk damage. Freshmen workouts begin the following week and the field needs to be as clean as possible for the student-athletes. There is, however, a bounce house and family-fun zone inside Apogee, located in the northwest corner of the main plaza between gates 2 and 3. This area is FREE as well.
What can we do about traffic after the event? Be patient. This event is different from a sporting event in that the crowd gradually increases before the fireworks, thus the traffic heading in to the event flows fairly smoothly. Then, immediately after the fireworks, everyone tries to exit all at once. We encourage you to take a little extra time to tailgate, enjoy the evening, and allow for a large crowd to disperse with the assistance of our UNT Police.
What is the actual schedule of events inside the stadium? There are two local bands that will perform on the Budweiser stage at the 50-yard line: Raised Right Men (classic country and western) and Stage Fright (classic rock). In addition, we will honor America with the singing of the national anthem at approximately 8:00 p.m. A full schedule is listed below:
