DENTON, Texas (2/3/13) - No. 54 Mean Green
tennis swept Lamar, 7-0, Sunday afternoon at the Waranch Tennis Complex.
North Texas took an early advantage
winning the doubles point. Sophomore pair Kseniya Bardabush and Franziska
Sprinkmeyer defeated Carolina Salas and Helene Czudek 8-4. Seniors Valentina
Starkova and Barbora Vykydalova defeated Alicia Porte and Carolina Maso 8-5
just minutes later.
Ilona Serchenko defeated Czudek in straight
sets 6-2; 6-1 in the No. 5 singles slot to be the first singles match
completed. Vykydalova defeated Porte 6-3; 6-2 in the No. 2 singles slot.
Starkova clinched the win for North Texas
after coming from behind to defeat Maso 7-5; 6-1 in the No. 3 slot. Bardabush
defeated Salas 6-2; 6-1 in the No. 1 slot to bring the score to 5-0.
Sprinkmeyer bounced back from a tough loss
yesterday to defeat Natalia Mayagoitia in three sets 6-1; 6-7 (7); 10-4
in the No. 4 slot.
The most impressive match of the day went
to Agustina Valenzuela, who defeated Dariya Dashutina in a dramatic three sets
5-7; 7-6 (8); 10-4.
"I really tried to stay concentrated and focus
on the time," Valenzuela said after her match. "I tried to take my time with
every point and bottle it until the end. I was relieved to win the second set
and excited for the tie break then."
Mean Green tennis takes a break before
returning to action against FIU on February 16 in Mobile, Ala.
