FORT MEYERS, Fla. (1/21/12) - Sophomore Franziska
Sprinkmeyer wrapped up the final day of the Florida Gulf Coast Invitational
winning a singles and doubles flight championship.
Sprinkmeyer defeated North Florida's Taylor Hollander 6-7
(7), 6-3, 12-10. Sprinkmeyer then teamed up with fellow sophomore Kseniya
Bardabush to defeat Pronina - Cacciutolo, of Iowa State, 9-8 (5).
"It
was very good preparation for the upcoming dual matches" Sprinkmeyer said. "On
the first two days our team were dominating the matches and each of us we found
our game very fast. Even though we did not play our best we all fought hard."
Freshman
Emelia Box defeated teammate Dané Joubert in the Flight 5 finals match
6-2, 6-3.
Seniors Valentina Starkova and Barbora Vykydalova teamed up
to defeat Iowa State's Langhorst - Anderson 8-1 to take fifth place in the
doubles Flight 1.
Freshman Agustina Valenzula defeated Gasparovic, of Iowa
State, in straigt sets 6-2; 6-4 to take fifth place in the singles Flight 4.
"I
think after this tournament we are ready to compete as a team and are very excited
for the upcoming season," Sprinkmeyer added.
North
Texas tennis returns to action Jan. 26-27 in College Station, Texas for the ITA
Kickoff at the Mitchell Tennis Center on the campus of Texas A&M.
