DENTON, Texas – North Texas freshman Carnae Dillard was
named the National Freshman of the Year in the January issue of Cobra Magazine,
a publication that celebrates African American volleyball players.
Dillard, who ranked second nationally among all freshman
with 552 kills, was named the Sun Belt Conference Freshman of the Year on top
of her First Team All-Sun Belt and All-Sun Belt Tournament team honors.
She was also named to the Cobra Magazine Second-Team All-National, topping her teammate Eboni Godfrey, who earned Cobra's Honorable Mention All-National in 2011.
Dillard's accolades led NT to one of the best seasons in school
history, which included a school-record tying 26 wins and the program’s first
trip to the SBC finals. The Mean Green won the SBC West Division crown for the
second time in three years under head coach Ken Murczek.
Dillard’s 552 kills rank fourth in NT history, and she was
the only Division I player with over 550 kills, 275 digs and 90 blocks.
