DENTON,
Texas (11/8/12) - There was no football game Wednesday night, but the press box
at Apogee Stadium was packed full of people making phone calls. Mean Green
student-athletes took part in the first-annual North Texas Athletics Thank-A-Thon
at Apogee Stadium as more than 40 student-athletes volunteered to call Mean
Green Club members to thank them for their support.
"The
student athletes had a blast making the calls," said North Texas
Student-Athlete Affairs Coordinator Michele Lowry. "There were a lot of
messages left, but many athletes got to speak to the members of the Mean Green
Club. They were so excited when the members knew who they were and some of
their stats. This is definitely something that will become a tradition at
North Texas, and we want to continue to show our appreciation to those who give
to our athletic community."
Each student-athlete called about 20 Mean Green Club members, and over 900
thank-yous were made. The remaining calls will be made over the next few days.
"It
was a great experience to reach out and talk to the individuals and families
that help fund what we do on a daily basis," said football student-athlete Nic
Summerfield. "Without their support, many of our athletes would not have the
opportunity to play ball at the college level, and for that we are truly
grateful."
The
Mean Green Club raises funds for North Texas athletic scholarships. Donations
to the Mean Green Club help support nearly 350 North Texas student-athletes
each year, and provide them with the best collegiate experience possible.
