NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Shelby Tamura shattered her own Sun
Belt season-high mark for digs in a 3-set match, but the North Texas offense
remained in neutral in a sweep at the hands of Stephen F. Austin (25-23, 25-23,
28-26).
Tamura posted 27 digs in the three-set loss to the Ladyjacks
(19-9), which topped her 21-dig outing against Houston Baptist in August for
the best in the league in 2012. The junior now owns four of the top five outings
by an SBC back-row player in a 3-set match this year.
Unfortunately for the Mean Green (20-11), Tamura’s defense didn’t
jumpstart the NT offense. NT hit just .065 as a team. Carnae Dillard, one of
the Sun Belt’s top freshmen, was the lone bright spot with 13 kills and 18
digs.
The third set featured nine lead changes, and the eighth one
saw North Texas take a 26-25 edge thanks to a Dillard kill. SFA was able to
rebound with a pair of kills to steal the set and the match.
The Mean Green has one final SBC road match at ULM on Sunday
at 1 p.m. NT will host its senior weekend on Nov. 9-11 when it takes on
Arkansas State and UALR for a chance at winning the Sun Belt West Division.
