DENTON, Texas – The North Texas volleyball team couldn’t get
its offense out of neutral and the Golden Panthers of FIU took advantage in a
3-0 sweep on Friday night (25-23, 25-17, 25-20).
North Texas (18-10, 4-5 SBC West) committed 26 attack errors
and hit just .046, and has now fallen in five of its last six matches. The
Golden Panthers (6-15, 3-6 SBC East) countered with .321 hitting and 14.5 total
team blocks.
After dropping the first two sets, the Mean Green nearly
completed a third-set comeback that would have sent the match into a fourth
set. FIU built a 17-11 lead when Courtney Windham and Carnae Dillard powered a
7-2 Mean Green run. Unfortunately, three NT attack errors closed the door on
the match.
Windham and Karissa Flack posed North Texas’ biggest
offensive threats with 10 and eight kills, respectively. Flack hit a career
high .467 against the Golden Panthers.
FIU responded with the combo of Marija Prsa and Kimberly
Smith, who pounded NT with 16 and nine kills apiece.
NT will take on Florida Atlantic on Sunday at 1 p.m. at the
Mean Green Volleyball Center.
