DENTON, Texas (10/9/12) - Freshman midfielder Karla Pineda landed the Sun Belt Conference Offensive Player of the Week award after her two-goal weekend that included a game-winner over Florida Atlantic on Friday night.
Pineda, a Houston native, leads the Mean Green in total points with 18 and assists with six. In addition to her game-winner against Florida Atlantic, she also put in the equalizer against FIU in Sunday's double overtime tie.
Both goals came unnassisted as Pineda took matters into her own hands offensively in each contest.
She has started 14 of the 15 games this season for North Texas and has fired 49 shots on the year for a shooting percentage of .122. Saturday night's game-winning goal was her second of the season. She has six goals on the season.
Pineda will try to keep her hot streak going this weekend when the Mean Green travels to Arkansas for conference matches against Arkansas State and UALR beginning Friday afternoon at 2 p.m. in Jonesboro, Ark.
