DENTON, Texas – North Texas middle blocker Courtney Windham
was named the Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Week after sending
back a league-high 17 blocks over the weekend. The award marks the second time
in as many weeks that a Mean Green player was recognized by the SBC.
The junior posted 2.12 blocks per set, including a
career-best 11 blocks in three sets at Arkansas State – the most by any Sun
Belt player in a three-setter, and the third most overall. The junior entered
the weekend with a league-best 1.38 blocks per set average, and finished the
road trip in the top 10 in NT history in single-season assisted and total
blocks.
With an SBC-high 118 total blocks on the year, Windham
already ranks eighth in school history. Her 93 assisted blocks in 2012 are also
eighth in NT history.
Last week, Carnae Dillard was named the Sun Belt Player of
the Week for her efforts against Baylor, Louisiana-Lafayette and ULM.
