WACO, Texas - Senior
Sara Dietz finished 18th at the NCAA South Central Regional to lead
all Sun Belt runners as North Texas cross country capped off its 2011 season at
Cottonwood Golf Course Saturday.
Dietz's 18th place finish was good enough to
receive All-Region as she finished 17 spots ahead of her closest teammate in
21:29.0.
"Having Sara finish so high was a great way to end her cross
country career," cross country coach Sam Burroughs said. "With several athletes
out due to injury, I think the others stepped up and performed well."
Ingrid Mollenkopf captured a 35th place finish 22
minutes flat and the Mean Green women's team took 12th with 356
points.
Matt Russ led the way on the men's side, finishing 49th
overall and 47th in scoring and the men took home 16th
place with 443 points.
The Mean Green distance runners will be back in action
during the indoor track season, which kicks-off January 14, 2012 at Texas
A&M Invitational in College Station, Texas.
