2005-06 Academic Success

North Texas student-athletes achieved unparalleled success in the classroom during the 2005-06 school year.

Nick Bazaldua become only the third Mean Green athlete to earn a NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship, which was awarded to 29 male and 29 female athletes from across the country last year. Only four Division I football players and 11 Division I athletes overall were awarded the $7,500 scholarship.

Four student-athletes were honored for their academic achievements by ESPN The Magazine and the College Sports Information Directors of America. Patrick Cobbs (football) and Heath Smith (track and field) were both named second-team Academic All-America, while Susan Waters (softball) and Austin Welch (golf) received academic all-district honors.

In 2005, a total of 183 North Texas student-athletes were recognized for their academic achievements by being selected to the President's List, Dean's List or Athletic Director's Honor Roll. Each year at halftime of a Mean Green basketball game, these athletes are honored for their classroom success.
