Denton, Texas (10/1/09) – The University of North Texas
tennis team will be back in action this weekend at the University of
Louisiana-Lafayette Invitational in Lafayette, La.
The Mean Green looks to rebound after a disappointing start
to the fall season. Catalina
Cruz, Amy Joubert and Ashley Akin all tallied their first wins of the young
2009 fall season in Midland, Texas and are looking to expand on those numbers.
“Our preparation has been very good,” head coach Sujay Lama
said. “We are looking forward to using this tournament as spring board for the
upcoming regional. Paula, Amy and Catalina have the opportunity to play a
higher flight and measure their tennis with players that will be playing in the
top three of their line ups in the spring season. Playing matches that count is
the fun part. We hope to have great performance in Lafayette.”
Five members of the team will take place in the individual
style tournament, which is scheduled to begin on Friday morning and run through
Sunday afternoon.
The Invitational marks the first chance that the Mean Green
gets to see Sun Belt Conference rivals in action.
