LAS CRUCES, New Mexico - Sophomore transfer Kelsey Kipp
shot a season-best round of 75 on Monday to lead the Mean Green on day one of
the Price's Give 'Em Five Intercollegiate.
Kipp fired a 36 on the back nine and stands tied for 14th
overall with 11 other competitors. The Mean Green as a team is also 14th
after shooting a 310. UC Irvine leads the tournament after one round after they
shot 6-over par (294).
"It may not have been the round we were hoping for but there is a long way to go in the tournament," North Texas head coach Jeff Mitchell said. "There were some very positive signs late in the round and I feel confident that we will improve as the tournament progresses. Kelsey Kipp, after firing a final round 76 in Denver's tournament two weeks ago, played solid golf in her opening round of 75. As a newcomer to the program, that is a good sign."
Senior Janna Golden is tied for 39th with a
first round five-over 77. Senior Jordan Rose (78), sophomore Addison Long (80)
and senior Maggie Noel (85) finished the day in that order. North Texas
finished the afternoon with eight birdies and 47 pars.
The second round of the Price's Give "Em Five"
Intercollegiate will tee off Tuesday with a shotgun start at 9:30 a.m. (CT)
