HIGHLANDS RANCH, Colorado (9/21/09) - Four members of the
Mean Green women's golf team posted top-20 scores on the first day of the Ron
Moore Women's Intercollegiate and sit in fourth place heading into tomorrow's
second round. North Texas fired a 308 under cold and rainy conditions and is
just 10 shots off the lead behind Denver entering play on Tuesday.
The Mean Green is in front of nine other squads including
Iowa St., Illinois, Nebraska and Wyoming.
Senior Jordan Rose is tied for 9th overall
after her first day score of 4-over par 76. Rose was followed by seniors Maggie
Noel and Jana Golden, who are both tied for 12th after shooting 77
respectively. Sophomore Addison Long is 17th with a first day score
of 78 while sophomore transfer Kelsey Kipp carded an 80 in her North Texas
debut.
"This is a really good way to start the fall," North
Texas head coach Jeff Mitchell said. "Under extreme weather conditions we
really managed to stay focused and keep our composure. This should give us some
confidence going into day two."
The Mean Green will tee off the second round of the Ron
