FT. WORTH, Texas (1/15/10) - North Texas Swimming & Diving defeated Texas Christian for the second time in program history, 155.5-144.5, Friday night at the University Recreation Center on the campus of TCU.

The Mean Green (7-4) jumped out to an early lead they never relinquished, by winning the first five races and 10 of the 14.

Senior Emily Floyd and sophomore Rosa Gentile both won two individual events for North Texas in the victory.

Results

Floyd, a distance swimmer, took both distance events, including a season best 10:16.12 in the 1000-yard freestyle and a 5:01.64 in the 500-yard freestyle. Her 1000-yard time was the third best in school history, a little less than 10 seconds short of her own record of 10:06.15.

Gentile continued her winning ways, by taking the 100-yard backstroke in 57.76 seconds, which is just .22 off of the program record, and the 100-yard butterfly in 57.34 seconds.

Gentile was also a member of the 200-yard medley relay that jumpstarted the Mean Green by turning in a first place time of 1:47.11with Nicole Leslie, Hannelle Luoma and Seabre Pope.

Mean Green Diving turned in one of the best performances of the year, led by sophomore Delia Covo.

Coming off of her new school record performance of 258.38, Covo fell just short of that mark, turning in a 255.30 on the three meter board and coming in second.

Covo set a new career high on the 1-meter board, collecting second place with a 242.03.  Teammate Mary Beth Geeze joined Covo by setting her own career high one the 1-meter board with a 230.78, a number that was good enough for third.

Senior Alicia Hale, the reigning Sun Belt Conference Co-Swimmer of the Week, turned in another strong performance, collecting two individual victories, along with a second place finish.

Hale won the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:52.58 and the 200-yard individual medley at 2:09.57, while finishing second in the 100-yard freestyle at 52.75.

North Texas will return home next Friday to take on Houston at 6:30 p.m., at the Pohl Recreation Center on campus. Senior Day will follow the very next day, Saturday Jan. 23, at 11 a.m., when the Mean Green will be taking on Rice.
