DENTON (2/05/10) - The University of North Texas honored 222 student-athletes for their academic achievements during the 2009 spring and fall semesters at halftime of Thursday night's men's basketball game at the Super Pit.

Students with GPA's of 3.00-3.49 were placed on the Athletic Director's Honor Roll, students with G.P.A's of 3.50-3.99 were on the Dean's List and students with a 4.00 G.P.A made the President's List. A student-athlete had to earn at least a G.P.A of 3.0 in one of the two semesters to make the honor roll.

The Mean Green swimming and diving team held the highest cumulative team G.P.A during the 2009 fall semester (3.18) with 31 student-athletes earning at least a 3.0 GPA. Ten swimmers posted a 4.0 in at least one of the two semesters.

The women's golf team followed with a team G.P.A. of 3.17 in the fall of 2009, while the soccer and softball teams tied for third with a 3.11 grade point average. Twenty-two members of the soccer team were recognized, including four student-athletes who posted a perfect 4.0 G.P.A. in either the fall or spring semesters. Nineteen members of the softball team made one of the three lists, including two freshmen who posted a 4.0 in their first semester at North Texas.

The Mean Green football team led the way with a department-high 43 student-athletes being recognized for their academic achievements. Women's track and field and swimming followed with 31 student-athletes each.
