BOWLING GREEN, Kentucky (10/25/09) - For the first time
this season the Mean Green soccer team was dealt a conference loss as North
Texas dropped a 2-0 showdown to the Lady Toppers at the WKU Soccer Complex
Sunday afternoon.
Along with the loss North Texas (11-5-2, 7-1-2) was also
without the services of freshman sensation forward Michelle Young, who was
forced to leave the match after suffering a concussion 15 minutes into action.
Overall both teams had 10 shots each but WKU outshot the
Mean Green 7-3 shots on goal.
"It's disappointing because I thought we controlled the
game," North Texas head coach John Hedlund said. "Our 11 corners to their one
will indicate that and it did not help matters when our leading goal scorer
Michelle Young received a concussion 15 minutes into the game and could not
return. But that's the breaks, it's our first conference loss and we'll move
on."
WKU (13-4-1, 8-2) jumped out to an early 1-0 advantage in
the seventh minute when Mallory Outerbridge dribbled past two North Texas
defenders and put a shot past Mandy Hall in the right corner of the goal,
marking the first goal allowed by the Mean Green defense in 207 minutes of
play.
The game would remain 1-0 all the way until late in the
second half when WKU's Kaylyn Pratt scored her sixth goal of the season off a
header with the assist coming from Sydney Sisler.
North Texas will next travel to Denver next Friday for
their regular season finale. That game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
